The end of a relationship does not have to mean the end of your quality of life. If you are dependent on a spouse, you may be entitled to spousal support or alimony in order to maintain your standard of living. I have more than 18 years of experience helping clients in the Greensboro area secure the support they need as they begin a new phase of their life.
| To prevent a steep drop in your standard of living, it is important to file alimony claims quickly. Contact me today to schedule an appointment. |
I work closely with clients in these cases and am committed to using every legal tool available, including testimony from witness and private investigators, to secure the alimony you are entitled to. I understand how judges conduct these cases and will work diligently to build an effective case on your behalf.
While receiving alimony in North Carolina does not require fault on the part of the supporting spouse it can be a significant factor in these cases. If a supporting spouse commits adultery in the days or weeks preceding a separation, then that supporting spouse may be required to pay alimony under North Carolina law. However, if both spouses have committed adultery during the marriage, the dependent spouse may be prohibited from obtaining alimony. If a dependent spouse commits adultery while the supporting spouse was faithful during the marriage, then the dependent spouse may be prohibited from receiving alimony.
While there are not as many legal avenues for enforcing alimony as there are for child custody or child support, there are effective remedies available. Judges are committed to enforcing alimony orders and an experienced attorney can help you make an effective argument on your behalf. I help clients on both ends of these situations resolve their case efficiently and defend their rights.
When a supporting spouse is unable to pay the amount specified in an order, he or she may be able to have the agreement modified, thereby avoiding an enforcement action. Also, these orders may be modified due to cost of living increases and other financial factors.
